Yesterday, B and I attended our fourth wedding just this year alone. We have one more to go in June, and then hopefully wedding fever will cease for the rest of the year. We have been attending on average about six weddings a year the last 3 years.
Weddings are lots of fun, especially when a bunch of friends are there at the same time. It is also fun when the location is further away than the metropolitan area and the setting is a lovely lush garden in an old manor house, where we were yesterday. We had perfect weather, and the wedding was just lovely, with the bridal couple looking so happy and in love, supported by their parents, siblings, extended families and friends.
But weddings can also be expensive, not just for the bride and groom. For the guests, especially women, there is the question of "What do I wear this time?" and if you have attended weddings of friends from the same circle, you need a different outfit each time. Then there are the accessories that go with the dress - shoes, bag, jewellery. I have been known to buy a new dress with a complete new set of accessories to go with it before. Oops. And then there is the gift, of course. Either a traditional Chinese red packet, or something from the gift registry, which for me and B, has to be something pretty decent and should cover the cost of our meals, or at least close to. Obviously sometimes some couples do opt for a more expensive wedding if they can afford it.
Not only are weddings expensive but they do take up an entire day. Which is fine, seeing as a marriage is something to be celebrated and we are honoured that we are invited to participate in the celebration of it.
Anyway, I am not entirely sure of the purpose of this post, except that I wanted to say, 5 weddings within 6 months of a year is a lot of weddings to attend. And it seems like our peers are at the age where they are ready and want to get married. So, here's to more weddings in the future, and none for the rest of this year.....!
