It was B's birthday, and I decided to use my family as guinea pigs as I held my first dinner party.
I took great pleasure in setting up our dining table for 6 (mum, dad, my sister, my brother-in-law, B and myself). It was a chance to use our dinner plates and side plates for more than just 4 people, our cutlery and the gorgeous crystal wine glasses we were given for our engagement. As well, we just had to show off our beautiful votive candles by Vera Wang that we received as gifts for listing a number of Wedgewood products on our bridal gift registry. :)
My mum helped me out with entree and a birthday cake for B - thank God for mothers! She did prawns for entree, simple boiled king prawns. The main course was provided by your's truly. I did a Jamie Oliver broken potatoes (very easy, boil potatoes, season with sea salt, olive oil and rosemary, and then put it them in the oven to roast for about 40 mins until they are golden) and a Donna Hay steak with rocket sauce. Again, very easy as you cook the steak to the way you like it (medium, rare, well done), then you cook the sauce separately. The sauce is really just sauteeing the rocket leaves with garlic.
The result:
The above serve was mine, hence the size. I am watching my weight after all - ha ha. The men of the family had much larger serves. I also served a salad (mixed leaves tossed together) with a french dressing.
All in all, I thought it was quite successful. So much so that B and I are having his cousin & family as well as one of our groomsmen, N, over tomorrow night. Doing the dishes however took about an hour if not more..... we definitely have to invest in a dishwasher!
