Flowers from my fiance

What is it about flowers that make them so special and so nice when a guy gives them to you? Is it because they are so beautiful and so perfect, that when a guy gives them to you, it is like he thinks you are beautiful and perfect too? And is it because flowers are a complete waste of money (because they die eventually and get thrown out), that we appreciate them so much more because someone has thought that you are worth spending that amount of money on anyway? My wonderful fiance sent me the roses on Valentine's Day this year (he was boyfriend at that time). They came in a long box, and were absolutely gorgeous. It was even more special because he was still living interstate at that time, and it showed that he had thought of me to organise something like this to be delivered to work. Never underestimate the effect of receiving flowers at work.

These lillies were for my birthday in January. Said boyfriend (now fiance) was visiting and on holidays at that time, and went to pick up some flowers for me and they were waiting when I got home. That was lovely because at that time, I had suffered an injury to my shoulder that was still causing a lot of pain. So at least the flowers cheered me up.

Then there are the flowers that are "just because". These are even more special as they are unexpected. The oriental lillies on the left were such flowers. My thoughtful fiance has since figured out that I love lillies as much as roses (and orchids and tulips) and had picked these up for me, just because. Hmmm, perhaps it is time for more flowers, these were given to me back in April. That was a whole five months ago!

However, flowers do not have to be only from a boyfriend/girlfriend to be special. My best friend has given me flowers on some of my birthdays and they are just as appreciated. They brighten up the day, sometimes the week.
